SERVICES MANAGEMENT AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENTS
Improved controls and processing of Graingers' automated mail and direct marketing programs, saving $320,000 annually in postage and processing costs. Working with our external presort bureau, developed and obtained USPS approval for methods to make Graingers' automated, presorted invoice mail a continuous flow rather than end-of-day batch mailing. This improved mail flow and receivables returns, saving approximately $500,000 annually in interest costs and postage. Reduced costs by $92,000 annually by conversion to internal production of Graingers' 200,000 labels and forms. Consolidated internal mailings to Grainger branches saving $42,000 annually in postage and handling. Developed and installed a facility wide productivity improvement program at Honeywells' Arlington heights manufacturing facility, based on management by objectives and process reengineering. Resulted in an average annual real productivity increase of 10% for 7 years in succession. While at Grainger, received the U.S. Postal Service Great Lakes Area Mail Center Manager Award for excellence in mail operations (1997). Developed a long-range office space plan for Graingers' Chicago Offices, based on the business plans for each department. Negotiated hotel agreements for Grainger travelers, saving $30,000 annually. Installed system of strategic sourcing and partnering with key suppliers of Grainger services and office supplies.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Directed Honeywell administrative staff and temporary employees during a strike contingency operation, bring the 500,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility to full production in 11 weeks. Established a travel management system, which reduced Grainger travel costs by 15%, saving $3.5 million per year. This was done by establishing controls, reporting and follow-through with travelers and managers. .Instituted bar-coding and mail presort programs for Grainger automated mailings, obtaining annual postal savings in excess of $750,000 annually. Established team focused practices for the design and execution of all Grainger department and facility relocation projects. Converted Grainger office word processing operations from a central computer system to a decentralized PC based system, improving local control and productivity. Reduced annual costs by $300,000. Directed business systems study which improved space use at Graingers' specialty parts warehouse by 16%, saving $224,000 in warehouse costs annually.
